The Mansfield Independent School District has many reasons to boast! Exceptional students and dedicated teachers, staff, parents and the school community are collectively responsible for the districts many accomplishments.
Recent results of the Texas Assessment of Academic Skills (TAAS) showed test scores for MISD students are well above state averages. Additionally, at every grade level tested, scores increased in reading, writing, and mathematics. More than half of all MISD campuses have been rated ?recognized? and ?exemplary? by the Texas Education Agency.
Although academics are the central focus in Mansfield schools, extracurricular programs are important too. A well-rounded curriculum affords students the opportunity to participate in advanced placement classes, as well as take part in award winning music, drama, and journalism programs, to name a few. MISD athletic programs are consistently recognized as top performers for both boys? and girls? teams. The Mansfield Lady Tiger Basketball team is the only 5-A girls basketball team ever to win ?four? straight State Championships (99-02) in the State?s history. They are also the only team in the Nation to have a player ever win ?four? straight State Championships as well as be ranked No. 1 in the nation for two consecutive years. Other State honors have been bestowed on the Swim Team, Golf Team, and Tennis Team. Many of the various other athletics have received various recognitions.
The Mansfield High School Band Program consists of more than 1,500 students in grades 6-12. There have been numerous students that have received the highest honors in State competition. Students in grades 6-12 have the opportunity to compete in various competitions throughout the year. Various concerts are performed throughout the year that anyone in the community can attend.
The ?rapid growth? has also increased the size of the school district. Beginning in the school year 2002-03 the school district will consist of 10 Elementary schools (K-4), 3 Intermediate schools (5-6), 3 Middle schools (7-8), and 2 High schools (9-12).
